I Love Pomo!

09:33:00

Have you ever heard or read Pomo before? Yea, Pomo is a shorten version of Pomodoro Technique. Now, is it ring any bell? Not really? It's okay, I'm gonna tell you more about my latest favorite thing: Pomo!

Pomo or Pomodoro Technique is a technique created by Francesco Cirillo, which made a person more and more focus by prioritizing and organizing things/works. And, the pint point is, you'll helped by a kitchen timer! Yes, the one with an egg shape, or in Cirillo's development is in Pomodoro, or tomato in italian. =)

How to start it?
Prepare: a kitchen timer (or, of course you could use your cell-phone, software timer, or another. Set on 25 minutes), a sheet of paper (write your to-do-list here), a pencil (and an eraser, if you want keep it clean & tidy).

What should we do with this kitchen timer, Von?
Play it on, and do your work(s).
Pomo technique offered us to do our work with what we called as Pomo (per unit). Every Pomo is 25 minutes. Choose a work/task to do. Set it to 1 Pomo. Start doing your task. After 1 Pomo, we HAVE to take a break for 3-5 minutes. It is our free time to do anything. We should not thinking about our work in this break time. After it, play your timer again, 25 minutes, your another Pomo. After did 4 Pomos, you could have longer break time: 10-15 minutes. In every task accomplished, you strike-through it.

What could make this technique different Von?
I just see, the timer ticking all the time, and I got my nerves on!
Easy fellas. What all of you should do is enjoy the tick-tock process. Every one will feel the same for the first time. Do your work in Pomo with a full concern. Don't start any conversation with desk-mate when your Pomo ticking. You could do that in your break time. Don't open your Twitter and staring at the timeline. Only focus to do your task. When you listened the ticking, you'll remember, it's the time of working.

After practiced it, I amazed with my own capacity. I actually could wrote an email in English, with medium case complexity in 1 Pomo. In fact, I usually did it an hour. I even couldn't believe how I could did write a full blog-post with any style-up and several sources to find in 2 Pomos. I believe you'll experience the same thing.

The first thing that I could learn from this technique is I have a better "meaning" of time. People usually use the length of duration, to keep up with the target or the task(s), such as: I will do my letter in 1 hour. But then the most common thing people did is: start writing, in 10/15 minutes they will get boring and feeling stuck, open another thing/file to "get inspired", feeling stuck again, open Facebook or Twitter for refreshment, start chatting with another office-mate, or do another thing which made them swiftly distracted, and suddenly they look at their watch and it's only 10 minutes left

At the end, their tasks didn't completed properly. I, usually did same thing before. People had a tendency to be "Becoming". Cirillo stated Bergson and Minkowski definition of "Becoming" as
An abstract, dimensional aspect of time, which gives rise to the habit of measuring time (seconds, minutes, hours); the idea of representing time on an axis, as we would spatial dimensions; the concept of the duration of an event (the distance between two points on the temporal axis); the idea of being late (once again the distance between two points on the temporal axis)
My own highlighted point: the idea of being late. We have it, unconsciously. What we will change is not too concern into "Becoming", but into the succession of the events: your work(s).

Anyway, for the daily uses, I use Tomighty to help me ticking all day. For the records and daily report (and monthly graphic), I use PomoTime. Just click and you could have it freely from its source. For the game addict, people even develop Pomodoro Technique further, into a RPG-based game. You will have a character, avatar, get point and treasure in every task you've done. If you interested, click www.pomodorium.com. And of course, for the complete explanation of Pomodoro Technique, you could download it here.

I recommend all of you to give a shot into Pomo, in one till two days and you'll feel some changes. Finally, I enclose a beautiful line from Baudelaire's poem (The Clock), which Cirillo cited on his book opening:
"Remember, Time is a greedy player who wins without cheating, every round!”

12 Days Ago: Make-Up & Design

08:30:00

Phew, finally I got my spare time to tell you about several stories. Last weekend, or for the exact date was October 8th, 2011, I had 2 big agendas: Graduation Make-Up Challenge & c2o's DIY Talk Design Business & Management.

If you read my past posts, I've already told you that I have a challenge, to do make up for my boarding house mates in their graduation day. I feel honored, but afraid at the same time. I'm not a professional make-up artist. I love to do experiment in make up, but usually for my self. I did several make-up test to them, days before to know their comments and critiques. And, here it is the results!

#1 Tiwi
She have several special features in her face:
long chin, definite eyebrow and mellow eyes.
She doesn't want to look too different in her graduation day, so I just stressing make up in lips and eyes.
This is the picture after the graduation procession. Yes, she was sweaty to the max. I actually have her photo just after the make-up done. I want to take it candidly, but she turned her head and her face covered. =(

#2 Fanny
Her special features: slight eyebrow, thin lips, slanted eyes and she usually wear glasses. For Fanny, I shaped her eyebrows, her eyes and her lips. I thought the different rather huge than Tiwi's.
I
Fanny & me
And, I love my candid shot of Fanny, before she left the boarding house. =)
Do you see the roses on the side of her hijab? Yes, I did it too! I did Tiwi's & Fanny's headdress. I smiled ear to ear after they go to the auditorium at the sharp time. =D

Then, my second agenda was being (one of) the discussant of c2o's DIY Talk. I'm honored, once again, because when I saw into another discussant names, all of them had the experiences, chances and challenges which are harder and tougher than me. Even all of them had the education background in Design degree. Had met new people, new world. This is my first meeting into design constellation in Surabaya. I hope this discussion could bring a new step further, in any aspects (of design in Surabaya, and/or Indonesia).

the discussants: Mas Ghuby (Global Applework), Mas Bayu (Graphichapter), Mbak Maritjee, me, Mbak Nitchii, Ayos
pardon my ugly feet. =P

Thank You. Yes, All of You.

00:16:00

Tonight, I looked at a girl whose lonely, lost of her direction, sick, confused. She might be at a transition phase, to face a new world unimagined before. But unfortunately, she thought, breaking up with the past is the best way to adapt. With her true nature.

Facing the scenes, I realized how I should be more grateful for families, friends, colleagues, lover for being there and love me, care about and take me as I am. How they sometimes play hard to me, because I've been away from my own path, my own character. They did it because they concern about me.

I never saw a loneliness like this. I never felt it. I felt I always have a friend to talk to, several warm group-hugs, bunches of expert in any problem, and of course, families for coming back home.

This moment, I thank all of you, for being around me. Taught me important things, save me from uncontrolled situation, for being my strength. Thanks Dieu, for my ears, my eyes, and all of my senses to keep my precious people with me. Merci beaucoup Dieu.

letter

Ee-yuhh!

00:18:00

Were on a disgust point to a thing called hypocrisy.
I usual to a condition which is honest, responsible and consistent into my own feeling (toward something or someone). I remember what I've said, written and I responsible into it. Because I know, every thing that I did always affect another people. By eradicating your inscription would not guarantee nobody hurt. Some people off course read and have a judgment. Their judgment will affect your life too, sooner or later.

I recognized I'm not perfect. That's why I apologized when I made a mistake. I tried not to repeat it. I won't deny if it's my mistaken. I admit it and not flip it just for my -for God sake- nice and flawless image. Everybody changes. And the process always bumpy. But nobody (let themselves) fall for their fifth or sixth time. None of people could live on their poker-face all of the time.  If it's so, it's stupidity. Or intended attention-seeking. Or unhealed drama-victim syndrome. Which could be a simple case of hypocrisy.

Isuk dele, sore tempe.
Biyen ngece, saiki digawe.

Shame on you. You're licking up your own spit. Disgusting.

C2O Design It Yourself: Come!

17:59:00

This month, my most favorite local getaway: C2O, have trifles agenda which cover one big theme: DESIGN. The theme itself was sexy in every part of it. Design sometimes could be being a rare gemstone because of its originality. But at the same time, we didn't realize how the action of design(ing) repeats in our daily life effortlessly.

The agendas divided into several types: talks, screenings, exhibitions, workshops, gathering. I bet into the highest, this is one of the most comprehensive event about design in Surabaya. Last weekend, The talk give the introduction about design. The speakers: Bing Fei (vaith design), Anas Hidayat (republik kreatif), Josef Priotomo (Honored Lecturer of ITS Architecture) and the moderator is Ramok Lakoro (DKV ITS). Yes, I know you regret to miss it. Don't worry, they will hold 7 talks in this month with the topic : Management of Design, Graphic Design & Branding, Comic, Street Art, Fashion, Digital Media, Architecture & Urban Planning. I got my turn this Saturday, 5pm. Please do come if you are interested. You should, in my opinion. Because in term of design, Surabaya got left several steps behind to another city in Indonesia, such as Bandung, Jogja, Jakarta.
And this is our time to equate measure. =)

Another part of event which I highlighted into my agenda was the Screenings & the Market! The Screening specially show movies related into design: about the product, typeface, fashion photography, architecture, etc. I do really waiting this Sunday because in schedule they will play Helvetica, a movie about typeface/typography. Aw aw aw, can't wait! Then the Market will sell the local crafts & designs, 2ndhand trinkets, etc.
Hmm, sounds fashion-licious and delicious at the same time. =D

For the full information, of course you can go to c2o-library.net, follow their twitter account @c2o_library for digitally reminds you and keep you updated. This following link is the direct link into a special page of Design It Yourself 2011. Go explore and participate!
See you there, fellas!

Maybelline Lasting Drama: Envy!

16:04:00

Last weekend, I just bought a new eyeliner because my stylo-liner has run out. What I really want is eyeliner gel like Poet's --which is MAC, and I can't afford it, huhuhu--. I only could afford the imitation of MAC which I don't want to do it. I know it sounds naive, let it be. Because I'm aware of my wallet capability, I bought LT Pro point eyeliner, only IDR 57500, with a good quality. I bought this one also for next week graduation make-up challenge. ^__^
Poet's
My dream...
But guess whatt? Suddenly today, Arlia, my work-mate brought the gel eyeliner, authentic by Maybelline! Argh! Envy!
Me want this too! >,<
up: LT Pro black, brown line down: Maybelline Eyestudio Lasting Drama brown
